The history of the palace is closely related to the Baron von Wolff family and the outstanding Italians – the chamber singer Alice Barbi and the writer Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. The palace is surrounded on all sides by the park of the English landscape style, but in the dark hours of the day, a multimedia story about the romance of von Wolff's family life can be viewed on the northern outer wall of the palace.

SOME FACTS

• In 1802, the von Wolff family became the owner of the territory of Stāmeriena manor;
• During the 1830s, the construction of the palace in the Neo-Renaissance style began;
• In 1894, the owner of the palace Boris von Wolf (1850-1917) married the Italian chamber singer Margarete Therese Alice Laura Barbi (it. Maria Teresa Alice Laura Barbi) (1858-1948) and two daughters Alexandra (1894–1982) and Olga (1896–1984) were born within the marriage;
• In 1905 the palace was burned down, but in 1908 it was restored and now it contained the features of neoclassicism and Art Nouveau, which made it look like a special architectural gem;
• In 1920, after Boris von Wolff `s death, the widow Alice Barbi married the Italian politician and diplomat Pietro della Torretta;
• In 1927, Olga married the Italian diplomat Augusto Biancheri Chiappori. Their son Boris Biancheri Chiappori was an Italian diplomat, ambassador and writer;
• In 1932, Alexandra married Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa (1896-1957). His only completed novel “The Leopard” was published in 1958, a year after the author's death, and was a huge success around the world;
• After World War II, Alexandra worked as a psychoanalyst, became a member of the Italian Psychoanalytic Society (Società Psicoanalitica Italiana), later she became President (1955-1959) and had been working for the editorial office of Rivista di Psicoanalisi since 1955;
• The screenplay for “The Leopard” directed by Luchino Visconti, featuring Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale and Alain Delon, won the main prize of the Cannes Film Festival - “Golden Palm Branch”, Aleksandra married Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa (1896–1957) in 1932.
• Since 2016, Stāmeriena Palace has been managed by the self-government of the Gulbene Municipality;
• In 2017, the renovation and restoration of the facade and roof of the palace started.
• From the end of 2019, the palace as a cultural place and sightseeing object is publicly available.
